Nominated for Favorite TV Actor this year at the Kid’s Choice Awards, Alex Heartman portrays the role of Red Ranger, Jayden Shiba, the cold and serious leader of the pack on Nickelodeon‘s hit show, “Power Rangers Samurai.” Alex told us about his character in his own words:
Jayden is not your typical leader. Firstly he never wanted to be a leader. In the original episodes Jayden starts off thinking he can handle the duties of the Rangers himself. So when the team does come in he has to grow and learn as much as they do, which makes his team really trust him. Jayden is also a man of few words, so when he does speak to the team they are sure to listen. Overall, Jayden is complex on the inside but simple on the outside, much like myself.
Airing Saturdays at 12/11c, the show follows a new generation of five Rangers who must master the ancient Samurai Symbols of Power, which give them control over the elements of Fire, Water, Sky, Forest, and Earth. With Jayden’s element being Fire, things tend to get heated when he and the others fight, but at the end of the day, he always keeps his cool. It’s also pretty cool to be on the show because they film in New Zealand! Alex told us about filming there:
There were so many amazing things about filming in New Zealand. Everything from the locations to the people, even the food was noticably more delicious because it was so fresh! As far as the BEST thing about filming in New Zealand?? I would have to say the crew, I learned so much from them and because its such a small industry over there these were the same crews that worked on projects like “The Lord of the Rings” and other huge films! So for us to go be a part of that family for 9 months was one of the best experiences in my life.
With all of his hard work and great acting skills, Alex is up for a KCA this year. We asked him what the coolest part about being nominated for the KCAs were:
The coolest part about being nominated this year is well.. EVERYTHING! Haha! Since this is my first nomination in my whole career everything about it is so foreign and fun to me! But if I had to pick I guess I’d say it will be the most fun to sit with the rest of the nominees and start to make friends with everyone. And hopefully get some slime in the process
… This years KCAs are simply going to be a blast! With Will Smith hosting I know that the show is going to be unpredictable and slime-tastic! Even if I don’t win my award I’m just so excited to see a good show and to make some new friends in the process.
We totally get where he’s coming from! We also asked if he’s had any fave moments from the KCAs in the past. He told us a funny one!
I hate to laugh at someone else’s misfortune but this was just too funny. At last years KCAs Heidi Klum was on stage and because there was so much slime on the floor Heidi started to slip, she didnt fall but there was a stage hand running to help her anyway and right as he started to move towards her HE was the one that bit the dust and with both feet straight out in front of him he slammed back first on the stage in front of everyone! Hilarious! Only because he ended up being ok of course..
