JAKE T. AUSTIN KIDS PARTY FOR A CURE

Jake T. Austin will be joining in the fun this weekend, as he makes a special appearance and personal donation at the 9th annual Kids Party For A Cure, benefiting the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Institute at Dave & Busters (1504 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY 11590) on Sunday, March 25th. The event will feature activities for kids of all ages, sweepstakes, a silent auction, and a private meet and greet photo session with Jake for eligible sponsors. Austin has generously agreed to donate his time to the Kids Party and will be personally presenting a check at the event in the amount of $2,500.00 to support the DRI’s important research.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Kids Party for A Cure that benefits the Diabetes Research Institute. My grandfather has struggled with this disease, and it’s been important for me to learn more about diabetes and how to support the kids here who have it. I know that the DRI is solely focused on finding a cure and that gives me a reason to believe that a cure for diabetes will happen in our lifetime.”

-Jake T. Austin
The mission of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation is to provide the Diabetes Research Institute with the funding necessary to cure diabetes now. The Diabetes Research Institute leads the world in cure-focused research. As the largest and most comprehensive research center dedicated to curing diabetes, the DRI is aggressively working to shrink the timeline toward the discovery of a biological cure for this disease. The Diabetes Research Institute was created for one reason – to cure diabetes – which is and will continue to be its singular focus until that goal is reached. For the millions of people affected by diabetes, the DRI is the best hope for a cure.

VICTORIA JUSTICE DONATE MY DRESS CAMPAIGN

Amanda Schwab/Startraks

Nickelodeon starlet Victoria Justice is the new face and spokesperson for the 2012 Donate My Dress campaign. Designed to help less fortunate teens get special occasion dresses for their proms, Sweet 16 parties and Quinceañeras, the campaign encourages girls to donate gently used dresses to their local chapters. Victoria says:

“I’m really excited to be a part of the Donate My Dress organization. Prom can be really expensive; this program is an easy way for girls everywhere to get involved and help other girls in need.”

Justice is donating a dress of her own — the Jill Stuart mini she wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music awards (above) — and hoping others follow suit. Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Brittany Snow have donated some of their special occasion dresses in the past, too.

In conjunction with the dress drive, Donate My Dress is partnering with Always for its annual Purple Dress Awards, which recognize the most outstanding local chapters in the DonateMyDress.org network. Always will donate $1 for every girl who visits its Facebook page and shares her favorite prom dress style — up to $25,000 — and ultimately give $5,000 to five deserving Donate My Dress chapters to use for dry cleaning, mending, dress drives and more. Visit Always’s Facebook page right HERE to give back, and visit DonateMyDress.org right HERE to learn more about donating (or finding) a dress this season.

ELIZABETH STANTON TURNS 16

You only turn 16 once and while most teens want their birthdays to be about themselves, Elizabeth Stanton made her birthday all about others! Elizabeth, who hosts “Elizabeth Stanton’s Great Big World”- a show all about giving back, hosted her birthday as a charity toy drive for Toys For Tots! With Elizabeth’s help, Toys For Tots received over two THOUSAND toys for the Los Angeles area.

Elizabeth’s show takes place all over the world, so it seemed only right to have a worldly themed party. Guests could enjoy cuisine from all parts of the world, take pictures next to a balloon replica of the Eiffel Tower and listened to the musical stylings of Jesse McCartney, Cali Swag District, Ace Young & Diana DeGarmo.

In the video below, Elizabeth talks about how excited she was to meet Jesse McCartney and have him perform at her party. The pop star serenaded the birthday girl and her guests by singing his hit songs “Beautiful Soul”, “Leavin’” and “Shake”.

VOTE FOR TO WRITE LOVE ON HER ARMS

It’s the last chance to help Melbourne, Florida non-profit organization To Write Love on Her Arms make some noise as today is LAST DAY of the final round of the American Giving Awards presented by Chase. TWLOHA founder and two staffers had the opportunity to sit down with Justin Timberlake to discuss the competition. Check it out HERE.

TWLOHA is one of five charities with a chance to win $1,000,000.

Over the weekend, we have also received support from Miley Cyrus, Sophia Bush, Anberlin, Christina Perri, Switchfoot, Brittany Snow, Vanguard Records, Brandi Cyrus, Kiptyn Locke, Kyle Korver and more. In addition, we received support from the following US Women’s Soccer Team players Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath, Abby Wombach, Ashlyn Harris, Alex Krieger as well as Eastern Surf Magazine.

Part of what TWLOHA wants to do with the money is continue to invest in bringing their message of hope and help. It’s a ton of money and it would obviously go a long way. They know that the issues they speak to exist in all communities and we want to continue to work to let people know it’s okay to talk about them, it’s okay to ask for help, okay to challenge friends to get help…

The grants will be announced in an award ceremony in LA, which will air on NBC (this Saturday, Dec.10th). So in addition to the money, there’s a pretty special moment…
