MTV VMAs!
We’d love to post the video, but I’m sure it’s nothing you haven’t heard. PLUS, VIACOM will request us to take it down. All we have to say, if you didn’t watch the first 5 minutes of the MTV 2009 Video Music Awards, you may have missed the most dramatic moments of all time.
First on the red carpet, interviews with the nervous 15 year old Justin Bieber were key, alongside Taylor Lautner & Asher Book from V-Factory for FAME. The music video for “Fame” sung by Naturi Naughton premiered right there!
Starting off the show with the most PHENOMENAL tribute to the King, Michael Jackson, Madonna gave a very heartfelt speech about the fallen King of Pop and supported his lost childhood. Madonna gave tribute to the love he had for his childhood and the love he had for his life.
Host Russell Brand talked (not sure if anyone listened after last year’s horrendous show)…
Country Cutie Taylor Swift won the “Best Female Video” award (from the gorgeous new teen King Taylor Lautner. In the middle of her heartfelt speech, Rapper Kanye West, stormed the stage, took T-Sweezy’s microphone and told Taylor that he’d let her continue, but Beyonce‘s music video was the best of all time, “‘I’m sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time”, leaving the poor girl stunned onstage. Taylor didn’t get to finish her speech, but looking out into the crowd was all she needed. The cameras showed West being booed and Taylor’s best friend, Abigail, standing up to give the girl the standing ovation she deserved. The crowd joined in and every time Kanye was shown on the screen, he was greeted with angry crowd boos. (West was later escorted from the arena and his performance for the night was canceled).
Besides the drama filled FIRST 10 MINUTES, the night went on as scheduled. Green Day took home the moon man for “Best Rock Video”. Justin Bieber & Miranda Cosgrove introduced Taylor Swift as she performed “You Belong With Me” while dancing through the subways and on taxis! Next performance, Pete Wentz from Fallout Boy & Gabe Saporta from Cobra Starship introduced Lady Gaga‘s performance which included falling chandeliers and lots of… blood? Well, at least she sounded good.
Britney Spears wins “Best Pop Video”… surprise, surprise. Green Day performed and let a ton of people on stage to party with them! Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson came out and introduced a new trailer for “New Moon”. Gossip Girl‘s Chace Crawford & Ne-Yo introduces Beyonce who put on a beautiful dance filled number.
Following Beyonce, T.I. wins an award for “Best Male Video” from jail… MUSE performs… Then, KANYE WEST is escorted from the building and has his performance canceled (not shown on television). Eminem wins a well deserved moon man for “Best Hip Hop Video” where he classily thanks his fans and family. He presents the next award to Lady GaGa for “Best New Artist“. Pink performs next, singing and doing an entire phenomenal acrobatic act. That’s two years in row with brilliant performances.
It all came down to the last video, “Video of The Year“, which was presented to the ever fabulous Beyonce. In one of the most heart-warming moments of any MTV Video Music Award, Beyonce smiles, grabs her award, and calls Taylor Swift back to the stage, to give the girl her spotlight for winning her first ever moon man. Personally, the moment gave me chills. To win the biggest award of the night, and to step out of the spotlight to give your time to someone else is the most amazing things anyone could ever do. Props to you, Beyonce. That was a brilliant thing to do. (side note- Taylor thanked her fans, her little brother’s high school & our favorite, Lucas TIll)
The show was not over at that moment though, as it came back Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys rocking out to his new song “Welcome to New York”.
As the night was dedicated to the King of Pop, it was only appropriate to end it with him, as the trailer for his new movie, “This Is It” showed. Opening on October 28th, 2009, it’s sure to be a great dedication to the late performer.
The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards was sure filled with tons of drama, amazing performances & most importantly in this business, great outfits.
